Six gliders released their tow ropes at 6000 feet after crossing the coast and despite clouds and strong winds after the gale, five managed to land within yards of the river bridge on the left and the canal bridge at the right.

GLIDER APPROACH

 Within minutes the bridges were taken by a specially trained glider infantry company of the "Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry" led by Major John Howard.
