INTO THE BOCAGE

We set off into the "Bocage" countryside and see where the soldiers of the 82 and 101 US Airborne Divisions landed by parachute and glider just after midnight on D Day.

U.S. 82nd Airborne Paratroopers jumping from a C47 Young Julia and elder brother Alex at the D-Day Museum in St. Mere Eglise

We visit the small town of St Mere Eglise, focal point of the American parachute and glider landings, and the first town liberated by the Allies. The museum has a C 47 aircraft that dropped paratroops on the night of D Day. With strong winds after the gale many paratroopers spent the night trying to find their comrades. One company jumped over Saint Mere Eglise. A replica of Private Steel - and his snagged parachute - dangles from the ancient church tower. Parts of the church are 900 years old, America’s Airborne veterans donated two of its beautiful windows.

WHAT OUR VISITORS SAY..

'Because the ground tour runs several hours there's plenty of time for going into depth about the D Day landings and the whole battle for Normandy. '

A group from Florida who took the tour.
